1st International Transport and Insurance Law Conference, INTRANSLAW Zagreb 2015

The Croatian Academy of Legal Sciences and the Faculty of Law in Zagreb have the honour of inviting you to the
1st International Transport and Insurance Law Conference – INTRANSLAW Zagreb 2015
,
to be held in the Congress Centre Forum in Zagreb, from 15th to 16th October 2015.
INTRANSLAW Zagreb 2015 seeks to create a new space for professional and academic discussion on the modern directions of development and implementation of theacquis communautaire in the field of road, rail, air, marine and inland water transportation, as well as of marine and transport insurance, freight forwarding, logistics and transport agency.  By connecting the worlds of practice, industry, academic research, legal counselling, legislation and judiciary, INTRANSLAW Zagreb 2015 offers an opportunity for professionals and academics in the field of transport and insurance to communicate with one another and have a critical look at the current state of affairs in the said fields.
INTRANSLAW Zagreb 2015 invites all interested participants who, in their field of profession and interest, deal with issues of transport law and insurance. It is possible to participate with a professional presentation, an academic paper, or as a listener. Sufficient time will be reserved in the conference schedule for discussions on relevant topics, which will be open to all participants.
The conference programme will be organised in parallel sessions in several conference rooms over two days, facilitating discussion on a number of topical issues.
The theme of the INTRANSLAW Zagreb 2015 is EU Transport Law, encompassing three large thematic units:

  • EU Transport Strategy and the Role of EU transport law
  • Legal Challenges of the EU Transport Market in a Time of Economic Crisis
  • Safe, Secure and Green Transport

Leading professionals in the field will open the discussion in a plenary session as key note speakers. Several sessions and panels will follow in parallel, dealing with various subjects falling under the main thematic units. The work of each session will commence with presentations of 1-2 invited speakers, leading experts in the field, followed by 4-5 other presenters whose professional presentations or academic papers will have been approved by the Academic Committee in the application process.
A special opportunity for the industry will be provided in the brokerage session, in which attendees will be able to briefly present their commercial and/or academic projects in search of potential partners in any sector or branch of transport.
The Conference will also feature an INFO-LAB – a workshop equipped with PCs where an information expert will train participants in the techniques of searching internet databases and sources of EU transport law with accompanying documentation for the purpose of quickly retrieving relevant legal instruments.
Finally, a special conference session will be reserved for young researchers in the field of transport law and the law of transport insurance, in which they will be given an opportunity to present the results of their research, and we are especially looking forward to their contributions.
We expect the presenters to associate their contributions with the implementation of law in practice and that their presentations be based on the existing legal framework.
The submitted academic papers and professional presentations may deal with the following topics (list non-exhaustive):

  • The process of harmonisation of the national transport legislation with the acquis communautaire
  • Practical problems of implementation of EU law in the transport and insurance industries
  • The impact of development of EU law in the field of transport on international and national transport law

The conference programme will support the participation of professionals with different backgrounds with the aim of overcoming the existing lack of space for the exchange of knowledge and experience between the academia, practice, state administration and economy, as well as between the various branches of transport. Applicants do not have to have a law degree in order to submit a paper for the conference, but all contributions should deal with a legal instrument, strategic document or case law.
