After UK last week has refused to deport businessman Vijay Mallya citing its immigration laws, the Enforcement Directorate is now taking legal opinion on his extradition, specifically on whether at all it would first require filing a charge-sheet against him in the IDBI case before it can move ahead. Sources said that the request returned by United Kingdom has been forwarded to legal experts of the agency after consulting with investigating officer and seniors in ED.
ED is awaiting for a word from Interpol on its request to issue a red corner notice against the former liquor baron to restrict his movement outside the UK. The agency had approached Interpol, through CBI – the nodal agency in India, last week seeking a red corner notice against Mallya, which once issued, will restrict the businessman’s movement outside UK.
