DIESEL VEHICLES MAY BE REGISTERED ON PAYMENT OF GREEN CESS: SC

The court had on December 16 last year banned registration of diesel-run sports utility vehicles and high-end private cars with engine capacity of 2000 CC and above till March 31.
The Supreme Court today said that it is open to lifting the ban on the registration of diesel-run SUVs and cars with engine capacity of 2000 CC and above in Delhi and NCR subject to a levy of one-time environment compensation cess.
Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justices AK Sikri and R Banumathi said “ We are inclined to allow registration. We are open to the registration subject to some kind of one-time cess,”
