A Mumbai sessions court has convicted Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the 2002 hit-and-run-case. Actor Salman Khan is guilty of running over pavement dwellers with his SUV 13 years ago, a court in Mumbai has said.
The prosecution has alleged that it has strong evidence that Salman Khan was drunk and driving back home from Juhu late on September 28, 2002, when he lost control of the car and ran over men sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery. The prosecution claims that Salman Khan fled the scene.
Khan is accused of running over five persons sleeping on a platform outside a bakery in Bandra, in his white Land Cruiser, early September 28, 2002, killing one of them.
Driver Ashok Singh, who is the only defence witness in the case, said in court, “I was driving when the accident took place… the tyre burst and brake jammed. I narrated the incident to police but was made to wait at the police station. I suspected foul play and informed Salman about it.”
The judge at the Mumbai Sessions Court tells Salman khan that you were driving the car under the influence of alcohal. The 49-year-old actor is charged with culpable homicide and could face up to 10 years in jail.
Salman has been booked under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (rash and negligent driving); 279 (rash driving); 337 (causing minor injuries); 338 (causing major injuries) 427 (negligence) in connection with the case.
