United States Supreme Court Legalizes Gay Marriage

While in India we still struggle with legislations like Section 377 of the IPC, the United States Supreme Court writes history with a ruling that has decided many wide spread ugly legal battles around the country once and for all. It has legalized gay marriage all over the country, without any exceptions.
The implication of this judgment, the one that is most clear as of now, is that the bans in as many as fourteen states of the country on gay marriage have been rendered ineffective. Apart from this, the more obvious ones include the fact that this would increase the harmony between various communities in the country to many folds.
As is every decision, this decision of the Supreme Court of U.S.A has also faced some strong opposition.  These include the Christian conservatives, understandably, along with one of the most popular politicians of Arkansas Mike Huckabee who has gone as far as terming this decision as “judicial tyranny”.
But there has been an even bigger uproar of support by the general public, not only in the U.S but all over the world. President Obama has himself come up and accepted this step by the Supreme Court as one capable of changing the face of American democracy.
With the White House changing its Twitter Avatar into rainbow colors supporting gay pride, many people across the world have followed on various social media websites. This is definitely a triumph of democracy and equality over tyranny of the conservatives.
