
The School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai in association with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, hosted the prestigious 9thedition of ‘Pro Bono Enviro’ National Moot Court Competitionfrom 30th October to 1st November 2015. The Moot propositioncontemplated various environmental issues such as the suomoto powers of NGT, whether criminal action can be initiated through a Public Interest Litigation and other issuescurrently being litigated in the field of environmental law in India.Twenty four teams all over India registered to take part in the competition. The competition is judged by sitting judges from the Hon’ble High Court of Madras, Senior Advocates from the Bar, proficient academicians, experienced practitioners and former mooters. The prestigious competition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jayachandran, Madras High Court and the Guest of Honour for the program wasThiru. Skandan, Chairman of Pollution Control Board. The final round of the Moot Court Competition was judged by a five-judge bench comprising of the following dignitaries: Hon’ble Mr. Justice M.M.Sundresh (Judge, High Court of Madras), Senior Advocate Mr. ArvindhPandian (Additional Advocate General, High Court of Maras), Prof. (Dr.) V. Vijayakumar (Former Vice Chancellor, TNDALU and Professor, NLSIU Bangalore), Thiru T. Mohan (Advocate, High Court of Madras), and Prof. (Dr.) J. Vincent Comraj (Principal, Government Law College, Trichy). The team from NULSAR emerged winners and the team from RMNLU, Lucknow were declared runners-up of the said competition.The title ofBest Speaker For The Finals was awarded to Nilav Banerjee .Aditya Thakur from RMLNLU, Lucknow won the prize for Best Researcher. The team from NLIU Bhopal was the winner of the prize for Best Memorandum. The award for the Best Speaker was bagged by Ankit Gupta, also from NLIU Bhopal.
