Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday was reported to have said that the Supreme Court judgement against gay sex was not in accordance with evolving legal jurisprudence. He also said that “judgement on gay sex should be reconsidered” by the Supreme Court, as per IANS report.
“Supreme Court’s 2014 verdict banning gay sex is not in accordance with evolving legal jurisprudence and court needs to reconsider it,” he said at a literary event.
Jaitley also said that while there was no discussion within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the issue, he supported the Delhi High Court ruling that decriminalised homosexuality, as per NDTV report. “I am for decriminalising gay sex,” he said.
As per IANS report, he also said that the judicial system in the country was weak and was overpowered the government. However, there were many landmark judgements which resisted government’s authority.
