The recent leaked video of the ‘sting’ operation of Narada News have raised confusion among the people of Kolkata just before the assembly elections.
The Calcutta High Court is set in motion a process to establish the authenticity of the Narada sting operations, directing the company to produce the original video footage and recording devices.
It rejected petition by TMC lawyer, Kalyan Banerjee (representing Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Parsun Bandopadhyay and Sultan Ahmed), to postpone the hearing after Assembly election.
The court scrutiny will hopefully close the debate of the authenticity of the tapes, especially since TMC repeatedly termed it as a “political vendentta”.
While the TMC lawyer claimed that it was a ‘donation’. There is a fine line of difference between ‘donation’ and ‘bribe’.
The adverse party charged, “Political donations are also subjected by some rules. Any donation above 20,000 has to be declared by the party to the Election Commission”.
Next hearing is on April 8th 2016.
Since Narada News appeared to be private limited company, the bench asked to produce “Articles of Association”, names of managing directors and the shareholders. In addition, the court asked to inform who had the information and whether the information was disclosed to anyone, in the next hearing.
