Air India has barred aircraft crew from upgrading passengers with immediate effect. Pilots and senior cabin crew of full-service carriers often ask their friends or relatives to sit in higher classes if seats are available there.
Lohani, the chairman close to his employees has reportedly agreed to allow this practice in limited basis.
While the move is to enforce discipline in the organisation, the crew members say almost 99% of upgrades have historically been done on the directives of the aviation ministry and Air India management.
