The home ministry has decided to give Citizenship status to those who have flown to India out of fear of religious prosecution. For a long time, they have been tagged as “illegal migrants”. The move will be beneficial for 2 lakh Hindus from Pakistan and Bangladesh who often complain of violence against them.
This move is a step to keep the promise made by Modi in 2014 Lok Sabha elections promising citizenship to Hindu refugees.
However, the Muslim migrants(out of economic conditions) have not been included in the proposed plan.
