Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal announced round 2 of the odd-even plan will be in force from April 15.
According to the draft, non-transport four-wheeled vehicles or private cars with registration numbers ending with odd numbers can ply only on odd dates and vice-versa.
This also extends to those vehicles registered in other states but plying in Delhi.
A fine of 2000 will be imposed on violating this rule.
He said it cannot be made permanent till the public transport system was made robust.
The Delhi government is seriously considering implementing the odd-even plan for 15 days every month.
For now, the second phrase of the plan will be in force from April 15th from 8am-8pm daily, except from Sundays.
All previous exemption will be continued. School children are also in exemption.
However, the government has not been able to find a solution for parents-read men because women are exempt.
The assumption is that the children will be dropped well before 8am, hence morning hours don’t pose a problem.
in relation to this problem, Arvind Kejriwal said: ” Vehicles with scholl children are exempted and hence bringing them back from school is not a problem, for men or women.
The question was how men would go to pick up children in the afternoon.
We found largely mothers who go to bring back their children. Since women are an exemption, this is not an issue.
The problem is with fathers or male guardians. In the nine working days during the phrase of odd-even plan, only 4-5 days will be affected. We, therefore, request them to carpool.”
