Institute of Law, Nirma University Model United Nations Conference 2015

MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE
Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations, which is an intergovernmental organization consisting of 192 countries. Model United Nations, also known as “Model UN” or “MUN”, simulates certain bodies of the United Nations, predominantly the deliberative bodies where countries send delegates to meet and discuss International policy on a variety of issue.
Model United Nation involves researching, public speaking, debating, and writing, often along with creative thinking, teamwork and leadership skills. Model United Nation Conference includes a series of simulations in which students act as though they are a country’s delegates or representatives to the United Nations or other Intergovernmental organizations.
Prior to Model United Nation conferences, each student gets assigned a country and a committee. Each committee meets separately and debates several topics pertaining to the purpose of that committee. Delegates attempt to persuade others to support the objectives of his or her country in dealing with each topic. The entire committee works together to develop a resolution or multiple resolutions aiming to resolve the issue at hand.
A Model United Nation’s delegate is a student who assumes the role of an ambassador to the United Nations. He or she does not have to have experience in international relations. Anyone can participate in MUN, so long as they have the ambition to learn something new, and to work with people to try and make a difference in the world. MUN students tend to go on to become great leaders in politics, law, business, education and even medicine.

Model United Nations Conference is a mock United Nations setting where the students play the role of delegates and ambassadors from different countries of the world and put together one large debate over the presented agenda.
We will host three committees on the model of United Nations setting; namely:
1. The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
2. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
3. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
These three committees will be chaired by some of the best possible executive board members and the International Press covering the event will only add to the enriching experience. We have put forth contemporary and debate encouraging agendas for all three committees. The agenda for the UNHRC is “Cooperation among the countries to guarantee the rights of Involuntarily Displaced People (Refugees).” The agenda for the UNSC is “Protection of Civilians in armed conflict.” And the agenda for UNEP is “Environmental hazards of establishing industrial units in the underdeveloped and developing countries by the developed countries.” These agendas are open to interpretation by the executive board and will provide sufficient platform to the delegates to freely debate and deliberate their ideas and frame a resolution at the end of the three day event. These agendas have been framed to act as an encouraging force to steer this multi- academia event towards the right spirit of the MUNs.
The registration charges for the event are INR 800 (without accommodation) and INR 1300 (with accommodation).
