Last year, the Government had amended packaged commodities rules, making it mandatory for packets to have weight of 50 gms or it’s multiples.
The government has already notified changes in the rules from January this year, making it mandatory for manufacturers to display all necessary information for consumers in 40% of the total area of the label.
In a move to prevent sale of counterfeit products, especially drinking waters bottles, the government wants to make laser- printing of labels compulsory.
Around 28% of samples of packaged drinking water bottles tested in 2014-2015 were found to be not conforming to standards.
The process starts with making the letters on the labels bigger to make them consumer-friendly.
