SC tells states to add acid victims to disability list.

‘Only 17 states came out with compensation plan’
The Supreme Court on Monday directed all states and union territories to take steps for including acid attack victims into the disability list, so that they can claim reservation while seeking a job or admission to educational institutions.
Coming to the rescue of two Dalit girls who were attacked on October 21st, 2012, a bench of justices M Y Eqbal and C Nagappan directed the Bihar govt. to pay them ₹13 lakh, including compensation and treatment expenses.
In the laxmi vs. union of India case 2014, a separate bench had issued directions regulating the sale of acid and directed the state govt. to bear the treatment expenses and pay ₹3 lakh to the victim.
The bench had stated “The very sight of the victim is traumatising for us. If we could be traumatised by the mere sight of injuries caused to the victim, what would be the situation of the victim, perhaps, we cannot judge. Nonetheless we cannot be oblivious of the fact of her trauma.”
The court also pointed out the fact that only 17 states came out with a compensation scheme despite directions.
