CONCEPT NOTE

Women and children constitute some of the most vulnerable sections of society, often facing systemic discrimination, violence, and unequal access to justice. Despite a robust constitutional framework and numerous legislations in India, gaps remain in the effective protection and enforcement of their rights. Issues such as gender-based violence, child labour, trafficking, access to education, reproductive rights, and cyber exploitation continue to pose serious challenges.

India has enacted several important laws and is also a signatory to international conventions aimed at protecting women and children. However, the implementation of these laws is often hindered by socio-cultural barriers, lack of awareness, inadequate institutional mechanisms, and evolving forms of exploitation in the digital age.

This seminar brings together academics, legal professionals, policymakers, activists, and students to critically examine the legal frameworks governing women and child rights, identify implementation challenges, and explore pathways for strengthening protection mechanisms and ensuring justice.
